CHAPTER 12

Sleigh

For the last few days, I watched everybody who went in and out of Club Luxe. I hadn't seen Ameka yet, but I wasn't giving up on looking for her ass. I was going to be at Club Luxe every chance I got.

After Thanksgiving, Club Luxe had a Blaque Friday event, also known as the day after Thanksgiving bash, and the entire city of Winter Crest would be there. If Ameka were hanging in there, that would probably be the best time to catch her.

After I finished scoping out Club Luxe, I went to grab something to eat. While I waited for my food, my phone rang, displaying a number I didn't recognize.

“Who is this?” I answered.

“That's how you greet people when you answer the phone?” Kerri said on the other end, causing me to cheese hard.

I laughed. “Nah, I just didn't recognize the number. How are you doing today, gorgeous?”

“I’m doing okay. How about you?”

“I'm great now that I heard your voice.”

Kerri giggled. “That lil comeback was cute.”

“I’m glad you liked it.”

“I was wondering if—“ The phone went mute, and I heard nothing else. I looked at my phone to ensure it hadn't disconnected, and Kerri was still there.

“Hello? You good, Kerri?”

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“You were wondering what?”

“If you could come over to talk for a while.”

“Yes, send me your address, and I will be there in about an hour.”

“Okay, thanks.”

“No problem.”

When I entered the house, my mother sat on the couch, writing her Thanksgiving list. My mother loved the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorites. Everybody in the family loved my mother's cooking, especially her macaroni. Nobody would want it if my mother hadn't made the macaroni. My mother could throw down in the kitchen. Aunt Mickey couldn't cook for shit, but she could make some good-ass drinks. Everybody called Aunt Mickey Bird from the movie Soul Food because nobody would eat her cooking. Not even the damn dogs she owned; now you know that was some badass cooking.

After conversing with my mother and showering, I went to see Kerri.
